Tigers Bridle Red Sox, 3-2
|
The Detroit Tigers topped the Boston Red Sox, 3-2, in American League action at Fenway Park. The standout performance belonged to Detroit pitcher and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native Melvin Medellin. Medellin, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 8, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Bobby Jones sewed up the save, his 1st.
Detroit used the bat of Adrian Novakovic to capture the win. The first baseman jacked a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Tigers ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
Novakovic called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
The win has Detroit at 1-2.
