Yankees LF Tovar Gets the Cycle
|
At Ballpark of Belvedere today, Jose Tovar led New York (WIN) to a 8-3 victory over the Houston (WIN) Astros by hitting for the cycle, one of baseball's more difficult feats.
"Usually the triple is the hardest one to get, but I was most worried about the homer today because the ball wasn't carrying," Tovar said later. "When I took it deep, I was expecting the ball to die on the warning track, so it was sweet seeing the ump give me the signal to circle the bases."
In addition to going 4-for-5, Tovar chalked up 5 RBI and scored 2 runs in an exceptional performance.
Jose Tovar hit a three-run home run off Ricardo Acosta in the 1st, tripled in the 4th, hit a two-run double in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
In 20 games this season Tovar has batted at a .301 pace with 22 hits and 5 home runs.
