The Houston Astros withstood an impressive performance by Toronto catcher Zory Larikov to defeat the Blue Jays, 9-8, at Minute Maid Park. Larikov hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Mike Chisolm earned the win to go to 1-0. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. Seth Bowersox sewed up the save, his 3rd.

The Astros got a big at-bat from shortstop Josh Froyd. For the game, Froyd was 1-5 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Houston a 2-0 lead.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Toronto manager Max Meany. "But we decided not to take it."
