League Suspends Diamond and Smith for Brawl
Monday, January 8th , 2046
Yesterday at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium Wade Diamond and Eric Smith got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Dunedin Blue Jays and Charlotte Stone Crabs. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game.
Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Diamond will have to sit out 3 while Smith would be given a 7-game suspension for their roles in the brawl.
Diamond is presently hitting at a .202 pace with 1 home run and 7 RBIs. He has played in 35 games and scored 9 times.
To date Smith is 2-1 in 8 starts with a 4.89 ERA and has 44 strikeouts in 35 innings.
