The 33-year-old captured the award for the National League today after a year in which the Cincinnati (NYP) Reds pitcher excelled.
In 32 starts he piled up 219 innings, had 278 strikeouts with 52 walks and a 2.10 ERA. Perez held opposing hitters to a .187 batting average and compiled a 6.3 WAR along the way.
He received 16 first place votes out of a possible 30. Yojiro Hayashi of the Rome Braves finished second in voting with 6 first place votes, while Wen-hua Lei of the Hillsboro Hops finished third with 2 first place votes.
