Red Sox Come up Short of Playoffs Wednesday, October 3rd , 2046 Coming close doesn't make missing the playoffs easier for the Boston Red Sox. Club manager Rob Diederichs said it's a "tough pill to swallow" as the club has now been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Boston last appeared in the postseason in 2043. This is their 3rd consecutive year missing the playoffs, and in total they have not advanced past the regular season 106 times in their 146 - year history.
