No-Hit Masterpiece by O'Connor
Wednesday, September 19th , 2046
The Brockton Rox relied on no-hit stuff from starter Austin O'Connor to defeat the York Revolution 2-0 at Brockton Fields today.
"It's quite a thrill," O'Connor told the media afterward. "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."
To get his name logged in the Eastern League records, he stopped York cold and hitless, surrendering 2 walks and fanning 9 of the 30 batters he faced.
Brockton manager Doug Brockett was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that O'Connor "made managing easy today."
"I didn't have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do," he said. "I didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter."
This season O'Connor has a 4-6 mark in 14 starts with a 2.78 ERA. He has given up 63 hits in 94 innings, struck out 92 and issued 39 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .190 batting average against him.
