Titans End Afghani's Streak
Saturday, December 2nd , 2045
The 22-game hitting streak of University of Miami Hurricanes left fielder Jerry Afghani came to an end today at Mark Light Field at Alex Rodriguez Park. The California State University at Fullerton Titans held him hitless in 2 at-bats and also sent the Hurricanes down to defeat, 13-1.
Later, Afghani acknowledged to BNN reporters that the hit streak meant something to him.
"It was special," he said, "but I think other people make a bigger deal out of it than I do, or the players do. It was what we're all supposed to do; go out and hit the ball and try to score runs. It was a cool deal, but it's over now. Let's try to start a new one."
This year Afghani has collected a .397 batting average to date with 140 hits in 353 at-bats, 68 RBIs, 3 home runs and scored 61 times. He has played in 83 games.
