16-K Game for Twins Requena
|
Everything was working for Ruben Requena today at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The knuckle curve was working.
In an unforgettable performance, the 22-year-old Requena fanned 16 ValleyCats and sparked the Minnesota (NYP) Twins to a 29-0 victory over Tri-City. He left ValleyCats hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it.
"I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Minnesota (NYP) manager Steve Jeffers. "His location and command were really something."
In addition to collecting 16 strikeouts over 7 innings, Requena allowed 3 hits and no walks in a superlative outing.
"I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Requena said with a smile.
Presently Requena has a 1-5 mark in 9 starts with a 4.70 ERA. He has given up 41 hits in 46 innings, struck out 68 and issued 16 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .233 batting average against him.
