It wasn't easy but Jose Vega made it look that way.

Vega silenced the Vermont Lake Monsters, 8-0, in a Mahoning Valley Scrappers triumph at Eastwood Field today. Despite the appearance of dominance, Vega said later that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up no walks and 6 hits.

"It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else."

Presently Vega has a 2-1 mark in 3 starts with a 0.38 ERA. He has given up 18 hits in 23.2 innings, struck out 29 and issued 3 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .205 batting average against him.
