Mason Hurls Columbia to Shutout Win
|
John Mason shut out the Colorado (EL) Rockies 1-0 on a 6-hit masterpiece for the Columbia Fireflies at Spirit Communications Park today.
"He was kind of teasing them with his off-speed stuff, and his fastball was moving everywhere," Columbia skipper Matt Tomshaw said afterward.
Mason registered 5 strikeouts and issued 1 walk in pitching a gem.
"We just didn't swing the bats very well. Or else he just pitched good, whichever way you want to look at it," said Colorado (EL) manager Andrew Heaney after the defeat.
In 6 starts this year Mason has posted 3 wins while suffering 2 losses. He has pitched 44 innings, allowed 38 hits, struck out 37 and has a 2.05 ERA.
