League Issues 4-Game Suspensions for Brawl Thursday, June 27th , 2047 One player challenged the other with some angry words at the Zephyrs-Chiefs game at Zephyr Field yesterday. There was some pushing and shoving -- then the dugouts emptied. There was a lot of scuffling, but no punches thrown. When order was finally restored and the dust settled, the umpires ejected New Orleans's Ramon Martinez and Syracuse's Sean Rice. Now both antagonists will get some time off, courtesy of the league commissioner. They were suspended 4 games for inappropriate and aggressive behavior. Martinez is batting at a .223 pace this season, picking up 33 hits in 148 at-bats with 3 home runs, 18 RBIs and 22 runs scored. This year Rice has a 0-0 record with a 3.18 ERA in 0 starts. |
