Springfield 2047 World Series Champions Thursday, October 31st , 2047 A celebratory mood filled the air as the Springfield Cardinals closed out the season with a 4-2 victory over the Frisco RoughRiders at Dr. Pepper Ballpark to capture the World Series, 4-3. Giving the RoughRiders credit for a hard-fought series, Cardinals players said they believed throughout the postseason that their "destiny" was to be crowned Eastern League champions. "We felt like this was our year all season long," said second baseman Josh Martin, who was named series MVP. "It was our destiny to win it and we did." It was the 2nd in franchise history. During the National League Central Division regular season Springfield put up a 106-47 record and finished first. "They're the champions and they deserve it," said a dejected Frisco manager Cesar Hernandez. "We played good ball, they just played better than us." |
