Arends Pounds 3 HR Monday, September 2nd , 2047 Beloit Snappers left fielder Fred Arends put on a dazzling display of power today at Harry C. Pohlman Field against the Clinton LumberKings. In the 7-3 Snappers victory Arends penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Clinton manager Vance Cobb said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 26-year-old had 3 hits in 3 at-bats, 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Arends said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Fred Arends hit a two-run home run off Andy Mathis in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Andy Mathis in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Jose Acevedo in the 6th and walked in the 8th. So far this year Arends is hitting .405 with 7 home runs. |
