When you have the type of year Jordan Ruiz did, it's no surprise when you get named the recipient of the Most Valuable Player Award.
The 31-year-old captured the award for the American League today after a year in which the Hickory Crawdads pitcher excelled.
In 23 starts he piled up 182 innings, had 214 strikeouts with 30 walks and a 1.48 ERA. Ruiz held opposing hitters to a .174 batting average and compiled a 6.3 WAR along the way.
He received 21 first place votes out of a possible 30. Ben Knapp of the Lansing Lugnuts finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Bobby Lasaguna of the Lansing Lugnuts finished third with 3 first place votes.
