Hits Blitz for Owls Mercer Monday, September 16th , 2047 Caleb Mercer had a special day at Reckling Park today, contributing to the Rice University Owls' 9-8 win and hitting for the cycle along the way. The 17-year-old right fielder went 4-for-6, raking a single, double, triple and home run against the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Tar Heels. "Boy, Caleb had himself a ballgame, didn't he?" Rice University manager Carlos Sencion said later. "You don't see that very often." For the day, Mercer finished with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored to go with his 4 hits. Caleb Mercer hit a solo-shot off Steven Kennett in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 2nd, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 8th, hit an RBI double in the 9th and grounded out in the 10th. So far in 2047 Mercer is batting .257 with 2 home runs, 10 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He has 29 hits in 113 at-bats and a .306 OBP. |
