Perfect Game: Nathan Dominates Tar Heels
Wednesday, December 25th , 2047
So rare that it is more a figment of the imagination than an actual possibility for a professional ballplayer, the near-mythical perfect game became reality for Brad Nathan today.
The Vanderbilt University Commodores right-hander dominated the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Tar Heels at Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium, securing the 15-0 Commodores victory and a place for himself in the history books.
"As a kid I imagined pitching a perfect game, but it was only a fairy tale -- I didn't really ever expect to pitch one," Nathan said later, sitting in the clubhouse with a crowd of reporters. "I don't want to demean it, but I've lost games where I had better stuff than I had today. It all just fell into place in this one."
The 18-year-old Nathan retired all 27 Tar Heels batters in a row. He surrendered no hits, walked none, struck out 8 and permitted no one to get on base.
This season in 24 starts Brad Nathan has a record of 5-6 with 114 strikeouts in 128.2 innings and a 3.15 ERA.
