Reliever of the Year Award Goes to Vargas

He may only be 23, but Juan Vargas of the Colorado Avalanche has already established himself as one of the elite relievers in the Western League.

The reliever was today named the WL Reliever of the Year Award winner for 2047.

He won the award with a strong year that saw him put up 22 saves in 62 relief appearances and 262 strikeouts in 140.2 innings. He had a record of 9-3 to go with his 1.60 ERA.

He received 30 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Matt Hawk of the Amarillo ThunderHeads finished second in voting, while Eric Simons of the Miami Beach Marlins finished third.
