Thursday, December 26th , 2047

Alexis Varela fired a third strike past his 237th batter this year to establish a new league mark for a season. The game was held up for about five minutes as the crowd roared in appreciation and Varela was presented the historic ball. Previously the strikeout record was held by Sherwood Abernethy. Talking to the press about his method of success, Varela told them, "I could probably throw harder if I wanted, but why? When they're in a jam, a lot of pitchers...try to throw harder. Me, I try to locate better."
So far this season Varela has 6 wins and 2 losses and a 0.74 ERA.
