Cubs Win, 3-1, at New York
|
Chicago and New York played a hard-fought contest.
Chicago starter Unkei Wakamatsu had a strong outing against the New York Mets at Citi Field. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 3-1 win. George Poirier earned the save for Chicago, his 3rd of the year.
Chicago relied on the hitting of Efrain Vargas to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Cubs on top, 2-0. For the game, Vargas had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Chicago skipper Mergatroid Skittle. "I can't complain."
The victory makes Chicago 17-13.
