Gommers Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits
|
The Aberdeen Ironbirds stopped the Minnesota (NYP) Twins by a score of 12-0 at Baseball City Complex today, with the lion's share of the credit going to third baseman Maup Gommers. The 21-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Gommers said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Gommers did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Twins.
"Not much that I can say," offered Minnesota (NYP) manager Steve Jeffers. "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Maup Gommers singled in the 1st, singled in the 1st, hit a three-run double in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
For the year Gommers is batting .328 with 7 home runs.
