Nationals Nip Braves, 6-5
|
Washington second baseman John Sanders contributed to his team's 6-5 win over the Atlanta Braves. Sanders, who finished 5th in the NL in batting average with .320 last year, went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Nationals. Washington pitcher Brian Ramirez got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tim Kull got the loss. Washington, at 21-27, sits in 4th place in the National League East Division.
In the bottom of the fourth, Washington center fielder Bob Melley had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, Melley stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 6-5, Washington. For the game, he went 1 for 3 with a walk and was hit by a pitch.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Sanders told the Washington Observer.
