The Pittsburgh Pirates topped the Washington Nationals, 5-3, in National League action at PNC Park. The standout performance belonged to Pittsburgh pitcher and Grandview, Missouri, native Walt Quinn. Quinn, now 1-2, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Jeremy Kennie collected save number 12.

Early in the game, third baseman David Contreras had a 2-run home run for Pittsburgh. It was his 10th home run of the season and put the Pirates on top, 2-0.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Contreras said.
