Matera, Loons Shut Out Suns, 12-0
|
It wasn't easy but the Great Lakes Loons made it look that way.
Starter Pat Matera shut out the Hagerstown Suns despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Great Lakes Loons cruised to victory, 12-0. Matera allowed only 5 hits and rang up 4 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
In 30 starts this season Matera has gathered 14 wins while suffering 9 losses. He has pitched 204.2 innings, allowed 231 hits, struck out 183 and has a 3.74 ERA.
