Cardinals Edge Diamondbacks, 3-2
|
The Cardinals grabbed a win, 3-2, at Busch Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Arizona pitcher Nate Machado. Machado went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. At 29-32, the Cardinals claim last place in the National League Central Division.
The game hit a turning point in the bottom of the first inning, when the Cardinals were trailing 1-0. Armando Carbajal delivered a two-out 2-run single for St. Louis, catapulting his team into the lead.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Arizona skipper Jose Quintana, "and it cost us."
