Despite a fine performance by catcher Mike Gifford, the New York Yankees lost to the Houston Astros, 11-5. Gifford went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs. Salisbury Swanson, the winning pitcher, is now 4-3. He went 6 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, while fanning 3 and walking 6. Getting the save was John Mathis, his 4th.

One of the clutch hits for Houston came from one of their biggest talents. In the top of the seventh with one out, Jason Woods, who finished 4th in the NL in OPS with 1.076 in 2039, hit a run-scoring single to put the Astros up, 5-4. For the game, the center fielder was 2-2 with 2 singles and 3 walks.

"I'm glad we can make our fans happy with a win," Woods told the Houston News.

Houston now sits in last place in the American League West Division at 29-35.
