Reds Prevail, 2-1, Over Pittsburgh
|
The Cincinnati Reds beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-1, at PNC Park. Starting pitcher André Gaillard was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. In 7 innings, Gaillard surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. He allowed no runs. Picking up the save was Junpei Yamazaki, his 3rd.
Cincinnati relied on the hitting of Dave Barefoot to pick up the win. The second baseman clubbed a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Reds on top, 2-0. For the game, Barefoot had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Cincinnati skipper Jimmy Silveira II. "I can't complain."
The win gives Cincinnati a season record of 34-32.
