Giants Need Extra Innings to Top Brewers, 4-2
|
Starting pitcher Curt Howland was a major factor in the 4-2 San Francisco Giants triumph over the Milwaukee Brewers. Alex Montes, now 1-2, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. With the victory, the Giants upped their record to 36-33.
Runs were scarce in this one. So, Bill Defazio's at-bat in the top of the 14th was vitally important. With one out, the San Francisco shortstop hit a sacrifice fly, to give his team a 3-2 lead.
Defazio called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
