Gretzky Helps Braves Beat Yankees, 9-3
|
Atlanta right fielder Erik Gretzky played a vital role in his team's 9-3 triumph over New York. He was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for Atlanta. Matthew Spurrell picked up the win, improving his season record to 12-2. He struck out 6 in 6.1 innings. Shingo Miura recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 1 for 3.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Ike Trout? The Atlanta first baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Braves on top, 2-0. For the game, Trout had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I like seeing our guys get a return on what they've put in," said Atlanta manager Andres Wray II.
The win gives Atlanta a season record of 58-41.
