Matsui Smacks 4 Homers Against Houston
|
Taki Matsui victimized Houston Colt .45's hurlers today, smashing 4 home runs in a herculean effort that will go down in the Western League record books.
In an epic hitting spree at Colt .45's Stadium, the Victoria first baseman went downtown again and again, leading the Capitals to a 13-6 triumph. He went 4-for-5, drove in 8 runs and scored 4 times in the historic game.
"The first ones just happened," he said later, discussing the game. "However, that last time, I was swinging for the fences -- and WHAM -- I nailed it."
Taki Matsui hit a solo-shot off Jorge Ortiz in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Jorge Ortiz in the 4th, struck out in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Kurt Carr in the 7th, walked in a run in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off Kenyu Tanaka in the 9th.
On the season, Matsui is batting .533 with 14 home runs and 26 RBIs. He has played in 14 games.
