Padres Stumble, Lose to Reds
|
The Cincinnati Reds defeated the San Diego Padres, 8-2, at Great American Ball Park. Cincinnati first baseman Chris Grunwald had a superb performance. He went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Ryan Sobocinski got the win, improving to 4-1. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 1 run, while striking out 4 and walking 5. With the win, Cincinnati raised its record to 52-48.
Grunwald had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 1-1 fastball from Bryce Cleavinger, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Reds a 3-1 lead. It was the 23rd home run of the year for Grunwald.
Grunwald called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
