Pittsburgh and New York duked it out and the Pirates came out victorious.
The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Mets, 6-3, at PNC Park. The Pirates got a fine performance from right fielder Brad Pepin, who went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Dave Spriggs picked up the win with 5 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 8. On the season, he is now 2-0.
The Pirates got a big at-bat from catcher Jorge Severiano. For the game, Severiano was 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 12th home run of the season gave Pittsburgh a 4-2 lead.
"No time for flexing," said Pepin. "It's always one game at a time."
The win gives Pittsburgh a season record of 55-48.
