Pirates Trip Dodgers, 8-4, in Extra Innings
|
Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Dodger Stadium.
The Pittsburgh Pirates relied on the hitting of shortstop Chiel Palstermans to stop the Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-4. For the game, Palstermans was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 3 walks, while scoring 2. The winner in relief was Jeremy Kennie. He is now 3-6. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Brad Pepin came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Los Angeles pitcher Joon-ho Rhee, he hit a first pitch splitter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Pittsburgh on top, 5-4.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Pepin.
The 4th-place Dodgers have lost 7 straight games.
