Nationals Deal Mets 5-3 Loss
|
The Washington Nationals picked up a win at Citi Field, taking down the New York Mets, 5-3. Starting pitcher Danny Diaz was a big reason why. The winner in relief was Oleg Bahanov. He is now 2-6. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. Washington now sits in 4th place in the National League East Division at 41-66.
Washington used the timely hitting of Hisayuki Akiyama to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Nationals on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Diaz. "Just do my job."
