Cardinals Need Extra Innings to Top Mets, 7-6
|
Citi Field was the site of an exciting ballgame between the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets.
No one was more impactful than Ichiro Toyota in the 7-6 St. Louis win over New York. Toyota, the 15th overall pick in the 2044 draft, hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The win was credited to John Fisher in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Robbie Beerbower took the loss. Geoff Mooney was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 2 save opportunities.
Toyota had a game-changing home run in the top of the 12th. On a 2-2 fastball from Casey Cuomo, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Cardinals a 7-5 lead. It was the 12th home run of the year for Toyota.
"There's no quit in this team," said Cardinals manager Jeff Jones Jr..
The losing streak for New York has now reached 4 games.
