Red Sox Win at Cleveland, 2-1
|
The Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Guardians, 2-1, at Progressive Field. Starting pitcher Jeremy Hernandez was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Hernandez, the winner, moves to 12-7. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 5 walks. Guadalupe Vasguez got the save, the 24th for him this season.
Boston used the clutch hitting of Zack Guillen to capture the win. The designated hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 2-0. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Hernandez. "Just do my job."
The win elevated the Red Sox to 67-46.
