New York Bats Go Silent in 2-0 Loss
|
In a tight affair between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, pitcher Reece Nichols was in the zone. The Boston right-hander helped his team win the game, 2-0. Nichols, the winner, moves to 13-8. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up no walks. Guadalupe Vasguez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 26 of 27 save opportunities.
The Red Sox got a big hit from shortstop Alois Wollf. In the bottom of the sixth, Wollf pounded a solo home run to right. His 12th home run of the season put the Red Sox ahead, 2-0.
"Reece is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Boston manager Rob Diederichs.
Boston is now 73-49, while New York is 41-80.
