It was a great day for Blake Ballard, but not a good one for his Texas Rangers. The 38-year-old right fielder reached a personal milestone with his 500th career homer, but it wasn't enough to beat the California Angels, who came away with a 9-6 victory. Ballard finished the day with 1 hit, 2 RBI and 1 run scored.

"Well, I've conceded the fact that you can't will yourself to hit a home run," he said. "I tried hard for the last few days. It was getting to be embarrassing with the crowd standing up every time I came to the plate."

His lifetime stats show Ballard has batted .268 and collected 2108 hits, 500 home runs and 1378 RBIs.
