Guardians Lose Late, 6-3
|
Cleveland wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Bruce Poff, falling to the Kansas City Royals, 6-3. Poff threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Chris Eaker earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. He upped his record to 10-1. Asa Hahn was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 25 of 29 save opportunities.
Kansas City used the clutch hitting of Justin Rupert to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Royals ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Rupert said after the game.
The triumph puts Kansas City at 79-61 for the season.
