Nationals Win Thriller, 6-4
|
The home team gave their fans plenty to cheer about, with a thrilling walk-off win.
Atlanta got a big-time effort from pitcher Nolan Stefanski, but it wasn't enough to keep the Washington Nationals from winning the game, 6-4. Stefanski threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Washington reliever Jon Glenn got the win, raising his record to 3-1. Kevin Cushman was tagged with the loss.
The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with Washington trailing 4-2, Bob Melley hit a fastball from Scott Bernstein for a grand slam home run, giving the Nationals the walk-off win.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Melley said in reaction to the win.
The Nationals raised their record to 60-85.
