Orioles Beat Nationals, 5-3
|
The Orioles grabbed a win, 5-3, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, overcoming a fine effort from Washington pitcher Danny Diaz. Diaz went 6.1 innings and allowed 4 runs. Antonio Escobosa came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 4-10. Lorenzo Merjil finished to wrap up his 1st save.
Had Robert Handy not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Handy hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Orioles.
"I like to lead by example," said Handy. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
The victory makes Baltimore 48-100.
