Twins Turn Back Cubs, 7-5
|
Chicago got a terrific game from first baseman Efrain Vargas. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Minnesota, 7-5. Vargas was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Matt Springer notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now sits at 1-0. Minnesota goes to 3-1.
Peer Derks helped out the Minnesota cause in the top of the eighth inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the right fielder drew 3 walk.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Derks.
