Expos Lose By a Run at Boston, 3-2
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Montreal Expos and Boston Red Sox get after it.
The Boston Red Sox overcame a good performance by Montreal first baseman Steve French to knock off Montreal, 3-2, at Fenway Park. French went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Justin Whitesack, the winning pitcher, is now 1-1. He went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, while fanning 2 and walking 2.
In the bottom of the fourth, Boston center fielder Nick Esteves had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and no one out, Esteves stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 3-1, Boston. For the game, he went 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"That's baseball," said Montreal manager Robb Dixon. "You're not always going to be hitting on all cylinders."
Boston is now 6-3.
