Padres Edge Past Mets, 6-5

The New York Mets got a superb performance from pitcher Jeff Jank, but the San Diego Padres still won the game, 6-5. Jank threw 7.1 innings of 6-hit ball. Troy Baker picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Chris Thurner was tagged with the loss. Arturo Diaz was called on to finish, recording his 9th save.
San Diego needed the clutch hitting of Hildo Pot to notch the win. The third baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Padres on top, 6-5. For the game, Pot had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said San Diego manager Robert Yoka.
The win gives San Diego a record of 14-12.
