Boykins and Conrad Suspended for Free-for-All Wednesday, September 16th , 2048 Yesterday at Hammons Field Dan Boykins and Michael Conrad got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Springfield Cardinals and Colorado (EL) Rockies. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Boykins will have to sit out 4 while Conrad would be given a 9-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. This year Boykins is hitting at a .281 pace with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs. He has played in 16 games and scored 7 times. This season Conrad has chalked up no saves, notched a 7-4 record with a 6.54 ERA, allowed 124 hits in his 106 innings of work, struck out 66 and walked 70. Opponents are hitting .297 against the Colorado (EL) hurler. |
