Cornett on Fire: 5-for-6 for Great Falls Saturday, May 30th , 2048 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Russ Cornett, it came around today. The 23-year-old third baseman scattered hits all over Joe O'Brien Field to pace the Great Falls Voyagers to a 14-9 victory over the Elizabethton Twins. Elizabethton skipper Kuan-yew Hoong told reporters in the press room that "Cornett deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Cornett hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Russ Cornett singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Karel Braaksma in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th. This year Cornett has socked 26 hits in 97 at-bats for a .268 average with 9 home runs. He is getting on base at a .379 pace and his totals also include 18 RBIs and 19 runs scored. |
