The slider was working. In an unforgettable performance, the 21-year-old Stannard fanned 16 Yankees and sparked the Baltimore (APP) Orioles to a 3-0 victory over Pulaski. He left Yankees hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it. "I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Baltimore (APP) manager Alexis De Los Santos. "His location and command were really something." In addition to collecting 16 strikeouts over 7.1 innings, Stannard allowed 1 hit and 1 walk in a superlative outing. "I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Stannard said with a smile. This year Stannard has made no relief appearances with no saves. In 183.1 innings, he has permitted 123 hits, fanned 274 hitters and recorded 18 wins and 6 losses with a 1.87 ERA. |
