Yamada Collects Hit Number 2000
Monday, September 21st , 2048
The day belonged to Hiroshige Yamada of the New York Mets as he became the latest player to reach the 2000-hit plateau. He did it in New York's 6-1 win over Atlanta.
"It's a moment I'll never forget," said Yamada after the game. "2000 hits is a lot. It puts you in a very select group. I never expected to be around long enough to reach a milestone like this."
He finished the day with 1 hits in 4 at-bats.
For his 1895-game career Yamada has hit .290 with 2000 hits, 1171 RBIs, and 273 home runs.
