Luckwell Reaches 3500
Tuesday, September 29th , 2048
Jerry Luckwell has gone through many bats during his playing career. None of them means as much to him as the one he used to crack career hit number 3500 at Petco Park yesterday.
The 41-year-old Padres third baseman told reporters after the game, "I plan to keep this bat at home in my own private Hall of Fame."
It was a happy day for Luckwell from the standpoint of the 3500-hit milestone, but a little disappointing, too. Despite his achievement, San Diego dropped the contest to the Colorado Rockies 6-5.
For the day Luckwell finished the day with 3 hits in 4 at-bats.
Luckwell has a career .326 average with 3500 hits, 522 doubles, 167 triples, 683 home runs, 2122 RBIs, and 2480 runs scored to date.
