The Boston Red Sox weathered an outstanding game by Houston second baseman Danny Merrill to topple the Astros, 6-5. Merrill went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. The winner was Boston reliever Adam Schneidewind, now 2-0. The loser was Aaron Shapiro. The triumph puts Boston at 25-11 for the season.

Boston used the clutch hitting of Nick Esteves to capture the win. The center fielder drilled a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"Nice to tuck this win away," said Esteves.
